Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College Academy of Professional Courses introduced the Bachelor of Optometry course on World Optometry Day. This course was introduced with the unveiling of the curtain by Dr. Satyajit Bose, Chairman, The Mission Hospital, Durgapur. The Chief Guest of the programme was Dr. Phalguni Mitra, Eye Specialist. The programme was attended by Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya, the General Secretary, Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College and the Group of Institutions, Jernail Singh, Treasurer of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College Society, Dr. Pijush Pal Roy, Director, Dr. B. C. Roy Enginering College, Dr. Arunava Mookherjee, Principal, BCREC-APC, Atanu Moulik, Head, Department of Optometry and Vision Science, BCREC-APC. To mark the occasion, a free eye check-up camp was organized and spectacles were distributed to five needy people free of cost by the guests of the programme along with a poster competition that was also organised by the newly admitted students which were highly appreciated by the guests and other members of the college.
Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya congratulated the faculty and officers of the college for organising the programme successfully.
Dr. Phalguni Mitra, the keynote speaker of the programme explained the nitty-gritty of the Optometry Course and the necessity of an optometrist in an eye hospital. He said that to be a good optometrist, students must have good knowledge of Biology and Mathematics. He encouraged the students mentioning that job opportunities for optometrists were very high.
Dr. Satyajit Bose said that students must be hard working, disciplined and have the leadership quality to make themselves employable.
Dr. Pijush Pal Roy, Director of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College encouraged the students to take part in the development of society.
The Principal of BCREC – APC, Dr. Arunava Mookherjee, thanked all the guests and members of the college.
